ASHEVILLE, North Carolina, July 6, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Today, The Omni Grove Park Inn is pleased to announce the opening of registrations for The 30th National Gingerbread House Contest™, the largest in the country, hosted annually at the resort. Official rules and entry form have been posted on the hotel’s website herewith new items including specialized rewards, increased prizes, and more.
The contest, celebrating 30 years of gingerbread baking innovation, began with a small group of gingerbread houses built by community members in 1992 and has grown into one of the most competitive holiday events around. from the country. People of all ages and skill levels are invited to build whimsical candy shacks, gumball-adorned castles, and sugar-spun landscapes to compete for the chance to win a piece of more than $40,000 in cash and prizes, an increase of 60% compared to previous years, in the four age categories: adults, adolescents, young people and children.
The complex continues to add sweetness and spice to the season with the addition of six new specialty awards, including Best Use of Nuggets, Most Unique Ingredient, Oldest Competitor, Best Use of color, pop culture star and most innovative structure. In addition, for the very first time, all registered competitors will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite piece of the entire competition to determine the winner of the new public prize: Best in Show Award. Finally, this year’s digital content submissions will be optional, although a description summary is still required.
The level of competition attracts the highest quality of design, art and baking expertise from across the country, and is complemented by a panel of judges representing nationally recognized food, arts and media professionals. This year the competition will introduce a new 10th judge, Ashleigh ShantiChef/Owner of Good Hot Fish and 2020 James Beard Finalist. The esteemed panel of returning competition judges includes Head Judge, Nicholas Lodgethe author of more than a dozen sugar art books and instructional DVDs; Carla Roomcelebrity chef, author and television personality; Nadine Orensteincurator of the Department of Drawings and Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Cheryl Forberg, James Beard Award-winning chef and dietitian; Mark Marinthe leader of culinary applications for Barry Callebaut; Geoff Blountpastry chef and teacher; John Cookexecutive pastry chef at the Omni Grove Park Inn; Steven Stellingwerfbaker, author and teacher; Aaron Morganexecutive pastry chef at the Stable Café on The Biltmore Estate.

Registration for the 30th Annual National Gingerbread House Contest™ is now open via November 14, 2022. The competition will take place on November 21, 2022, followed by an awards ceremony in the Grand Ballroom. The judgment is closed to the public. The awards ceremony is for nominees and their families only. The official gingerbread display at the hotel begins on November 28, 2022 and will continue through January 2, 2023.
