Art & The Bloom is a three-day exhibition and competition featuring workshops and demonstrations.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NORTH CAROLINA, USA, Nov 30, 2021 / – Leading floral designers from North and South Carolina will meet at Wrightsville Beach to showcase their fine art-inspired floral designs from the 7th until January 9, 2022.

The three-day Art & The Bloom exhibition and competition includes expert demonstrations and workshops in floral design, floral collage and culinary arts, jewelry fashion shows, gallery art sales by the Wilmington Art Association and nationally recognized vendors. Tickets are available to the public.

The New Hanover Garden Club, Harbor Island Garden Club and the host Blockade Runner Beach Resort will follow the Governor’s guidelines for preventing the spread of Covid 19. If the event must be canceled due to increased Covid restrictions, tickets will be refundable.

Now entering its fifth year, the Art & The Bloom of the New Hanover and Harbor Island Garden Clubs has become a much anticipated event. This year’s artwork will come from private collections and sworn artists across the state. Floral designers receive their artistic mission from a blind draw weeks before the event.

This year, Judge Judy Binns, National Garden Club Judge and Flower Show School Instructor, as well as award-winning North Carolina Event Organizer and Instructor Bill Hamilton. Floral design winners receive a beautiful ribbon, cash prize, and bragging rights. Judges will present floral design demonstrations and workshops.

Lois Watson, a locally renowned architectural illustrator and member of the Wilmington Art Association, will lead a workshop on creating flowers using watercolor collage. Participants will take home an original work of art.

Judy Binns will perform a floral demonstration on how to create many different types of designs using the same flowers. Judy is a Senior National Garden Club (NGC) Flower Show Judge, Past President of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, and recipient of the NGC Members’ Honor Award for the South Atlantic Region.

Bill Hamilton, an award-winning wedding and event planner and instructor, will perform a floral design demonstration on creating beautiful arrangements for your home on a budget. Bill has won numerous awards including the 2015 EPIC Tabletop Award, Best Themed Decor Award and Best Team Event Award.

Afternoon tea and a jewelry parade will be offered with Mariann Bauer, The Pearl Girl and her beautiful line of avant-garde jewelry.

The New Hanover Garden Club and Harbor Island Garden Club, organizers of Art & The Bloom, are federated through the National Garden Club and the Garden Clubs of North Carolina. Proceeds from the event will benefit gardening projects for non-profit organizations and scholarships. All activities will take place at the host hotel, the Blockade Runner Beach Resort.

Meet the creators preview party
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Enjoy the meet and greet from the designers, hearty appetizers from EAST Oceanfront Dining, music by Duke Ladd, harpist Julie Rehder, and a stroll through the exhibition before opening at the public Saturday.

Saturday January 8, 2022, Special sessions:

“Design in Bloom” floral design demonstration
9:30 am – 11:30 am

Judy Binns, master designer and award-winning instructor, will demonstrate creating many types of designs using the same flowers. Includes admission to the exhibition.

“Design for the home” 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Award-winning designer and event planner Bill Hamilton will demonstrate how you can create beautiful floral designs for your home on a budget. Includes admission to the exhibition.

Afternoon tea 3.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m.

Savor a delicious afternoon tea served in two courses, while being entertained by a jewelry parade by Pearl Girl Mariann Bauer; including entry to the exhibition.

Sunday January 9, 2022, Special sessions:

Watercolor collage workshop “Painting with paper” by Lois Watson 9:30 am – 11:30 am

WAA Artist and Instructor Lois Watson will lead a workshop on creating a beautiful collage using a watercolor technique (includes all supplies) includes admission to the exhibit.

“Edible flowers” ​​workshop by Carla Wiechman 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Pastry chef Carla Wiechman will guide you through the art of sugaring edible flowers. You will also learn how to make flowers and decorate your own cupcake (all supplies included). This session includes entry to the exhibition.

Afternoon tea 3.30 p.m. – 4.30 p.m.

Savor a delicious afternoon tea served in two courses, while being entertained by a jewelry parade by Pearl Girl Mariann Bauer; including entry to the exhibition.

The Wilmington Art Association will be running an auction gallery all weekend.

The Galerie des Vendeurs will be open all weekend for your shopping pleasure.
