Quick Bites: Trio of Taco-Related Restaurants Enter Local Food Scene


Why relegate your favorite pocket-sized Mexican food to taco Tuesdays, because by this fall, a trio of new taco restaurants are set to open in Lexington.

In mid-July, the second Agave & Rye Tequila and Bourbon Hall The site at 123 North Broadway was nearing completion and will accommodate 130 people indoors and over 40 outdoors.

“We have absolutely loved the city of Lexington since we introduced Agave & Rye there about a year and a half ago,” Founder and CEO Yavonne Sarber said in a press release. “Agave & Rye is built with heart and passion. We think it’s a perfect fit. Now, as we prepare to open our second location, we see a bright future here and we look forward to continuing to forge stronger bonds within this very special community.

In addition to its South Limestone location, The local taco has a sister site that will open this fall at 1916 Pavilion Way, according to the restaurant’s website. The restaurant offers dips, tacos, salads, enchiladas, quesadillas, drinks and more.

And in even more taco news: Condado Tacos Tequila Margaritas coming soon to the Summit at Fritz Farm. The restaurant is described as a build-it-yourself taco concept decorated with floor-to-ceiling murals. Condado is based in Columbus, Ohio, and was founded in 2014 with approximately 25 locations currently.

In other local news from the food and beverage industry: DV8 Kitchen the second location, at 594 E. Third St. # 100, will open on August 20, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. The restaurant offers baked goods and breakfast sandwiches throughout the day, with the mission of supporting people recovering from a substance use disorder.

Blue door smokehouse on Walton Avenue announced via Facebook that for now, the BBQ restaurant is keeping a take-out-only model.

“After a lot of discussion, thinking, questioning, listening, consulting with clients, other business owners and a lot of uncertainty, we have decided to continue with our carry-only model,” said the message. “We have become very busy with take out and curbside service, and we are not convinced that we could go on and open the dining room while still maintaining the level of service we have established over the past seven last years. ”

Chui ice cream and soda Pop opened at Julietta Market, according to the store’s Instagram page and is touted as having 64 varieties of soda and ice cream. Another novelty on the market is Da Dawg House hot dog vendor, serving specialty nachos and hot dogs, and XNorma, a new cocktail shop. Natalia’s pastry also opened, with recent menu items highlighted, including milkshakes, cookies and Dominican food, according to its Facebook page.

Bad Ass Coffee from Hawaii is opening a new location on the first floor of Hub Lexington Limestone at 685 S. Limestone near the University of Kentucky, according to its Facebook page.

A second location of Kung Fu tea will open in September at the Hub near the UK, according to the restaurant’s social media. The Bubble Tea Shop will also have TKK Fried Chicken.
